“If Calgary is the Heart of the New West, the railroads were once the arteries that allowed it to thrive, flowing grain, livestock, and other lifeblood’s through Alberta’s expansive prairies. Although the railroad’s importance to the economy has since diminished, Aspen Crossing refuses to let its heritage fade away.”
“Celebrating our Railway Ties”; the Aspen Crossing Railway offers 12 different themed train excursions that range from 2.5 hours to 4 hours, travelling a 28-mile round trip on it’s privately owned rail line that once was part of a CP line, decommissioned in 2001.
Expansive, panoramic landscapes with patches of green, yellow and tan during the growing season showcase agricultural lands, while the Alberta prairie night skies offer up every photographer’s dream of capturing natures canvas of colour. Clear bright stars twinkling in a twilight sky, you feel like you could almost touch them.
From May and running through to the end of Christmas Eve, you’ll find yourself wanting to try all 11 excursions at least once. From Champagne Brunch, Meals in the Field, Prairie Tour, and Circus Train, just to name a few. If you love a good scare, then be sure to add the Train of Terror to your list of chilling things to do this Fall. Most tours include musical entertainment along with a good old fashioned train robbery to round out your experience.
The Aspen Crossing Railway is also the first location in Alberta and 2nd in Canada to offer The Polar Express™ Train Ride!
Set to the sounds of the motion picture soundtrack, families are sure to delight in their journey to the North Pole, complete with hot chocolate and cookies served on board the train by dancing waiters! Upon arrival at the North Pole, Santa will greet ticket holders and gift them with their own silver sleigh bell, just like in the movie. Do you BELIEVE? Will you hear the bell?
Aspen Crossing is “an oasis in the prairies”, a one of a kind traintastic destination that boasts a replica 1905 CP Station that offers unique gifts and collectables. During spring and early summer, you’ll find 2 full greenhouses bursting with colour for your garden and patio.
The historical 1887 Pullman rail car that once belonged to Prime Minister John Diefenbaker, now serves as a fully licensed restaurant. You can enjoy daily specials and gluten free offerings. It also caters to corporate and family special events.
If you are looking to get out of the city for some outdoor fun, then you’ll appreciate camping at Aspen Crossing! Mature trees offer shade and privacy for most of the 100+ campsites, from No Service to Full Service. The campground also accommodates big rigs with pull through sites. Group shelters are also available for those corporate retreats or family reunions!
Currently, here are also 3 Caboose Cabins that have been refurbished into luxury glamping cabins.
Aspen Crossing is located just 45 minutes southeast of Calgary on Hwy. 24 just 1 Km West of Mossleigh, Alberta
