Wide Skies Music & Arts Indoor Concert
July 27 $50
A brand new festival in downtown Lethbridge, the Wide Skies Music & Arts Festival aims to bring a diverse range of world class musicians to a unique urban environment. The festival vision is one of accessibility for everyone and encourages visitors to embrace the idea of a “small footprint” in exchange for a big “wow” factor.
Presented by The Geomatic Attic and supported by funding through the City of Lethbridge “Heart of Our City” grant, Wide Skies Music & Arts Festival will take place over a two day period. The first day on Wednesday, July 26 will feature a free outdoor festival experience, situated on 11th Street between 3rd and 4th Avenue, next to Southminster United Church.
“We wanted to complement what other festivals are doing in Galt Gardens, but create something new in a unique location to spread out the arts and culture activities across downtown.” says Mike Spencer, festival organizer.
On stage there will be a mix of big-name performers, including prairie-folk heroes The Deep Dark Woods and JUNO Award winner Alex Cuba, along with killer local and regional performers including Ryland Moranz, Shaela Miller and Mariel Buckley. The outdoor event will also feature a hand-made art market, food trucks and beer gardens. Wide Skies Music & Arts Festival is also putting an emphasis on environmental sustainability by encouraging use of public transit and cycling to the event, along with on-site recycling and composting programs to manage waste.
“We’re encouraging people to leave their car at home and take the bus, ride their bikes, or walk to the festival,” Spencer says. “There will be special door prize draws for anyone who comes to the festival using an environmentally-friendly mode of transportation.”
The festival’s second day on Thursday, July 27 will move inside Southminster United Church for a very special double-bill featuring talented Canadian Lindi Ortega, and Los Angeles-based roots rockers Dave Alvin and Phil Alvin with the Guilty Ones.
Festival passes are on sale now and provide access to the indoor show on July 27, along with many extras for the outdoor show July 26.
