The Southern Region of 4-H Alberta and Exhibition Park announced the details today of Southern Alberta’s salute to Alberta’s 4-H 100th Celebration which takes place throughout 2017.
The Southern 4-H Region kick-off event will take place Saturday, January 7 in the North Pavilion at Exhibition Park.
From Noon to 4 pm Southern region 4-H clubs will host a free to the public trade show. The trade show will showcase each club and their activities that they are undertaking. In addition, educational showcases with speakers and interactive activities will also be held within the trade show area in the North Pavilion.
Andy Pittman, Chairman of the Southern Region of 4-H Alberta Celebration Committee said, “The Committee has been planning this event since last fall. 4-H has held a strong presence across Alberta for the 100 years. This is an opportunity to showcase the Southern Region 4-H clubs and their talents. We are hoping that all 56 Southern Region 4-H clubs will participate in the celebration!”
Following the trade show at 4:30 pm in the South Pavilion, there will be a reception, silent auction and a special announcement of the introduction of a time capsule.
Pittman added “on the day of the Centennial celebration, January 7 a special activity that will take place prior to the banquet is the unveiling and filling of a unique time capsule. The time capsule, which will be built in the shape of a miniature grain elevator, will be filled with memorable and significant items from individuals and groups throughout the Southern Region’s 4-H community.
Once the capsule is filled and sealed, the intent is to keep the contents “under wraps” until another 4-H milestone event – perhaps the 125 year celebration. Most time capsules are built with the end goal of burying them underground in a secure location. However, this impressive metal capsule will be securely displayed at the home of a long-time Southern Region 4-H partner, which is Exhibition Park in Lethbridge.”
