Not all fat is created equal
July 3 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm Free
Up to 11% of the adult female population (*) are affected by a chronic disease known as lipedema (painful fat syndrome). That statistic equates to over 180,000 women in Alberta alone, struggling with a disease that is under-recognized and under-diagnosed across Canada. Lipedema fat is unresponsive to diet and exercise (women who are successful in weight loss, including with bariatric surgical interventions, do not experience proportional weight loss in areas with lipedema fat.)
Two Alberta women who understand the physical and psychological pain of lipedema have created LipedemaAlberta.ca and have organized ALBERTA LIPEDEMA EDUCATION WEEK in hopes of raising awareness of this condition while simultaneously providing physicians with the knowledge to diagnose lipedema and provide treatment options.
