The Southern Alberta Ethnic Association (SAEA) and Educational Media Workshop (EMW) are partnering to present a new program: Dinner and a Movie. This is a film series accompanies SAEA’s the monthly, globally-themed dinner program on the last Friday of each month at the SAEA located at 421 6 Ave South.
The theme for the dinner on January 27 is “A Taste of Africa” at SAEA. Take-out dinner is available at 5:30 pm and sit-down dinner begins at 6:30 pm. Tickets are $15 for Adults and $8 for Children 5-12 years of age. Visit www.saea.ca/events/2017/01/a-taste-of-africa/ or call (403) 320-1577.
In a separate viewing room, EMW’s feature documentary for this month is “Africa: The Future.” and will begin at 5:00 pm. This documentary is part six of a six-part BBC nature series chronicling fascinating stories of survival on the African continent, home to the most diverse animal life on the planet. Viewers discover what it takes to save a species, hold back a desert and even resurrect an entire wilderness.
Naturalist David Attenborough, is the narrator/onscreen host, and in “Africa: The Future”, he chronicles efforts to protect and conserve the many species threatened by overpopulation, poaching, climate change, and other factors). The film isn’t simply educational and revelatory, but also visually beautiful, with amazing cinematography.
This award-winning documentary was produced in 2013 and runs 48 minutes. Admission to the movie screening in the SAEA is free. For all ages.
