Canada On Screen Presents: My Winnipeg

April 19 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Free
Directed by Guy Maddin

We are excited to help TIFF mark Canada’s 150th birthday with Canada on Screen. In partnership with Library and Archives Canada, the Cinémathèque québécoise, and the Cinematheque in Vancouver, they will screen 150 of Canada’s greatest films in 150 locations across the country in commemoration of Canada’s sesquicentennial.

Join us for SAAG Cinema where we will feature Guy Maddin’s My Winnipeg, which uses the city as the frosty and mysterious star of the director’s “docufantasia.” A work of memory and imagination, the film burrows into what Maddin calls “the heart of the heart” of the continent, conjuring a city as delightful as it is fearsome, populated by sleepwalkers and hockey aficionados.

What is real and what is fantasy is left up to the viewer to sort out in this hypnotic, expertly conceived paean to the wonderful and terrifying place known as My Hometown.
