100 reasons to go outside
April 12 @ 10:00 am - October 1 @ 4:00 pm Free
The Nature Centre celebrates its 100th original exhibit with 100 great reasons to go outside.
It marks the 100th exhibition designed in-house and hosted at this popular Lethbridge attraction since 1982. The exhibit features both indoor and outdoor displays, both of which embrace the wonder and fun elements of spending time in nature. Visitors may be surprised to see less of a formal natural history focus. The exhibit guides visitors with ideas and suggestions for how you can have a great time outside by simply enjoying Nature’s company. It also explores many of the reasons why it is so important for everyone to connect with nature daily.
“We have talked a lot ABOUT nature over the last 100 exhibits. Literally, from the world under our feet to the stars and everything in between!” says Coreen Putman, Helen Schuler Nature Centre Manager. “We felt this was a good time to help our community celebrate how good it is to just be WITH nature.”
Research shows that connecting with nature is good for every aspect of human health and wellness. That’s true for every stage of life, from infancy to adulthood. The list of benefits goes on and on. It spans mental wellness to physical and emotional health. Starting in May, through to September, a wide range of programs have been planned to bring Lethbridge residents together with the exhibit theme, all while inspiring people to spend more time outside.
“In Lethbridge we are really lucky. You don’t have to go very far to get a taste of wild nature!” says Jessica Deacon-Rogers, Helen Schuler Nature Centre Technician. “There are some parts of the river valley where you can forget that you’re in the middle of the city.”
The 100 Reasons to Go Outside exhibit will featured in the Helen Schuler Nature Centre’s Main Gallery until November of this year. The exhibit is open daily from 10am until 4pm, closed Mondays.
