Lethbridge offers a variety of venue options. If you and your spouse-to-be dream of an outdoor wedding, you’ll need to decide what kind of space you’d like to have it in. A park? A public green space? A picnic shelter? Do you want both the ceremony and the reception outdoors, just the ceremony or just the reception? Do you want it all in one location or at multiple venues?
Wedding ceremonies can be held in almost any public park within Lethbridge, but keep in mind you may have to share the space with other park goers and activities. Receptions are usually limited to fenced-in picnic shelters such as the Elks Compound in Indian Battle Park, the John Martin Recreation Area in Pavan Park or the Rotary Picnic Shelter in the Lethbridge Sports Park. Parkland and unfenced picnic shelters can be reserved for any day of the year while fenced-in picnic shelters are available only from May 1 to October 1 each year.
It’s best to check out the venues before you make your choice, so get out there and explore all the amazing spaces the city has to offer. At Henderson Lake Park, there’s the romantic rose garden, the island bridge for a small intimate gathering, or maybe there’s that spot by the cluster of trees where you shared your first kiss.
Meander along the paths in the river bottom with its backdrop of the iconic High Level Bridge or the pebbled banks of the Oldman River surrounded by the lush green coulee hills. Take a peek at the picnic shelters that provide a space to celebrate as well as barbecue and kitchen facilities for catering and meal preparation.
Once you’ve found the perfect outdoor location, contact the Recreation & Culture Department at the City of Lethbridge to fill out an application form. Staff will check the availability of the space, advise of any applicable fees, outline any guidelines for use, and answer any questions you may have. Be sure to apply as early as possible to ensure you don’t miss out on your dream location. After you have the ring, the date and the venue for your special day, you can move onto the next item on your to-do list!

For years, the Galt has hosted hundreds of weddings.
When you mention the Galt Museum & Archives to many people, their first response is, “Oh, I was there for a wedding!” Leading up to the 2006 renovation of the Galt, creating a space that was ideal for hosting events, including weddings, was a priority for the design of the new space. The viewing gallery that is now so iconic to the Galt is a very comfortable space for 120 guests and minimizes the decorating required for the event, since the view is such a perfect feature of any event in the space. After the museum proper closes, 5 pm on most days, the facility becomes a private gallery for your guests. The facility is elegant, centrally located to downtown Lethbridge and accommodations, and suitable for the ceremony, banquet and dancing. Many couples choose the Galt because of several additional benefits that help control costs, such as serving your own food, operating your own bar, and our location being walking distance to nearby hotels.
Many couples come to the Galt to take photos overlooking the coulees, in our garden of native prairie plants, along the paths that surround the facilities, in front of the tall windows on the viewing gallery, or in front of the historic brick wall of the 1891 Galt Hospital building.
The Galt Museum & Archives takes great pride that Lethbridge residents make use of the location, grounds and facilities; making memories in these wonderful celebrations of love and life.
