Team Lethbridge places 2nd at Southern Alberta Summer Games

    With more than 260 athletes earning 175 medals in 20 events, the City of Lethbridge claimed second place in the 2017 Southern Alberta Summer (SASG). The event was held in Brooks July 5-8.

    Lethbridge athletes earned 85 gold, 58 silver, and 32 bronze medals equaling 2118.5 total points. The host community, County of Newell, took the top spot with nearly 500 participants, earning an impressive 328 medals. Medicine Hat took the 3rd spot (117 medals), beating the MD of Taber by just two medals.

    In team events, Lethbridge won 10 gold, 7 silver, and 1 bronze, highlighted by strong performances in beach volleyball and soccer. Notable individual accomplishments include:

    Swimming

    • 4 gold for Kristy Togo

    • 3 gold and 1 silver for Keely Watt

    • 3 gold for Elliot Pilsner Roberts

    Athletics

    • 4 gold and 1 silver for Tad Orr

    • 3gold for Scott Paterson

    Equestrian

    • 4 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze for Morgan Maxwell

    “The Southern Alberta Summer Games was an amazing experience for all involved. It’s awesome to see all ages compete in a wide range of events, all within a short amount of time.” says Eden Hoff, Lethbridge’s Regional Director for the SASG. “One of my favourite things about the SASG is seeing the enjoyment of sport, especially in young athletes. It is a fun, grassroots event, where everyone benefits and grows.”

    In total, there were over 2000 athletes competing at this year’s Games from 13 regions across Southern Alberta. The next Southern Alberta Summer Games will be held in July 2018. The host community will be announced in September with registration beginning in May 2018.
