In May 2017 Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada was the first city in the world to approve the painting of a transgender flag on a city crosswalk. On Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at the intersection of 3 Avenue & 6 Street South (in front of the Southern Alberta Art Gallery), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada will be the first city in the world to paint a transgender flag on a city crosswalk, along with a rainbow flag crosswalk.
As it has been a point of conversation and contention in the community, all costs for these crosswalks, and the permanent crosswalks in the future are being paid by in full by Lethbridge Pride Fest.
“I’m so excited to be a part of Canadian and world history this Thursday to paint the first Transgender Flag Crosswalk ever,” Lethbridge Pride Fest Chair Devon Hargreaves said. “This is something that other cities are attempting to do, but haven’t done yet. Our small city is a leader on the world stage.”
