The City of Lethbridge has launched the first phase of its Lethbridge Parks app, making the City’s vast range of parks, playgrounds, pathways and outdoor facilities more accessible to those who prefer to look for information on the go.

“This easy-to-use app shares information about parks, pathways or outdoor facilities in the moment, without having to sit in front of a computer,” says David Ellis, Parks Manager for the City of Lethbridge. “Almost 60 percent of residents who visit our website for parks information use a mobile device, so we believe moving to an app format will better meet their needs.”

The app can be downloaded onto a mobile device by searching Lethbridge Parks in the device’s app store. Once the app is downloaded, users will be able to navigate paths and trails, or search for parks, playgrounds and greenspaces by name or distance. Information about spaces for recreational activities can also be accessed from the app. Users who have their device’s GPS enabled will have specific messages about the local park pushed right to their phones.

Ellis adds this is only the first phase of the app and it’s important to get feedback from the public about what features can be added in the future.

“It’s easy for us to make assumptions about what the public wants to see in an app, but we feel it’s important to gather feedback from the people that use it so we can create the best possible product for the community,” he says.

Users wishing to provide feedback can share their comments through the app under Settings or by email at [email protected].

Residents who don’t have a mobile device can still find the same information on the City of Lethbridge website. More information is available at http://www.lethbridge.ca/Parks.
