In an ongoing effort to reunite as many lost pets with their owners, the City of Lethbridge is asking all residents with licensed pets to email pet photos to the City, so they can be attached to their licensing accounts. This means that if a pet is lost, he or she can be identified visually by an Animal Control Officer by referencing the photo on the account.
“We are excited to start receiving photos of all of our licensed dogs and cats. It is just one more way for us to identify lost pets and return them home as soon as possible,” says Skylar Plourde, Animal Control Officer for SPD Animal Services, which operates the Animal Shelter. “If our shelter was empty and all lost pets went home to their families, it would be a great day for all of us.”
All residents need to do is email [email protected] or [email protected] with the following information:
JPEG photo of your pet
Account number (can be found on license renewal invoice or by calling 403-320-4099)
Name of dog or cat
This request for photos also serves as a reminder for those residents who still choose not to license their dogs and cats. If a dog or cat is not wearing a license, locating the owner can be difficult or sometimes impossible.
Annual dog licenses range in cost as follows:
$20 – Fixed and has a microchip and/or tattoo
$25 – Fixed but no microchip or tattoo
$45 – Not fixed but has either a microchip and/or tattoo
$50 – Not fixed and no microchip or tattoo (ID)
Cats can be licensed for a onetime fee of $10.
