As the country embarks on a year-long celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday, Lethbridge residents are invited to take part in the many local Canada 150 activities being planned, starting this weekend.
Free Canada 150 Swims will start this Saturday, January 21. The first 150 people to Stan Siwik Pool (not including swim lessons) will get free admission. As well, swimmers can enter to win gift cards to businesses providing health and activity based services.
The free Canada 150 Swims will rotate throughout the year between all City pools and in the summer will include Westminster and Henderson Pools. This activity is being offered in partnership with Recreation Excellence and the Westminster Neighborhood Association.
Beginning in February, the public can enjoy Free Sesqui-Skates (public and family skates) at different arenas, throughout the year. These will be advertised on the public skating page of the City’s website, on the public skate phone line, in the Recreation & Culture Guide and on posters throughout the city.
The City is also busy planning a bigger and better Canada Day celebration. Watch for announcements on changes and additions in the months leading up to July 1st.
Community organizations are stepping up to help celebrate. February events including a Sharing Dance Day event taking part across the country with local efforts coordinated by the Lethbridge Public Library, a documentary being released by the Galt Museum & Archives, and a celebration of Canadian artists in the upcoming Nord-bridge Seniors Centre’s fundraiser, Old Favourites.
Year-round activities have been organized by Lethbridge Sport Council at no cost to participants. These events allow and encourage community members to try new sports and challenges them to be more active all year long.
