November nights, with daylight fading earlier and earlier, provide the perfect time to escape with some great fiction stories and if you’re a Lethbridge teen you may end up not only enjoying an exceptional read but also winning a gift card for holiday shopping. Local teens have a chance to win a Chapters gift card by voting for their favourite of five books that have been chosen as the 2016 finalists for the Amy Mathers Teen Book Award.
Paige McGeorge, The Lethbridge Public Library’s teenbrarian, says “these five Canadian teen books have already proved to be popular with Lethbridge teens. They’re all great reads, and it will be exciting to see which book gets the most votes from our teen readers!”
The Library and the Sylvan Learning Centre are proud sponsors of the Amy Mathers Teen Book Award Draw. Voting must be completed by November 16th – draw entry forms are available at the Library’s Main Branch and at The Crossings Branch and also at Sylvan Learning Centre. Teens can win a $25 Gift Card by selecting their choice from the 5 finalists listed below. The draw will be made at the Sugar High Book Club at the library’s Main Branch on November 17, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. There will be a fancy cake to celebrate the winning book and to thank all the teen voters.
In 2014, Amy Mathers and The Canadian Children’s Book Centre launched the Amy Mathers Marathon of Books campaign to raise awareness for a new book award to honour excellence in teen and young adult fiction. Join the movement as we recognize the exemplary authors shortlisted this year.
The 2016 Finalists are:
• 5 to 1 by Holly Bodger
• Trouble is a Friend of Mine by Stephanie Tromly
• The Truth Commission by Susan Juby
• The Scorpion Rules by Erin Bow
• Young Man With Camera by Emil Sher
Books are available in print or as eBooks at the Library.
