Lethbridge Main Street Project Selected for National Competition

    Bow On Tong

The Lethbridge Main Street Project has been selected to compete for $40,000 in prize money in the National Trust for Canada’s This Place Matters Main Street competition.

During the competition we will be working to raise $3,000 to turn the Bow On Tong Chinese Apothecary (traditional Chinese pharmacy) into an interpretive centre for our community. The competition runs until November 15, 2016.

An interpretive centre will provide us with an excellent opportunity to tell the story of an important chapter in the history of our community. We are fortunate that this unique building and rare Chinese apothecary have survived. This is our chance to share the stories that helped make our community what it is today. The story of Chinese immigrants needs to be preserved for future generations of our citizens so that they will be able to understand the important role that the Chinese community played in the early formation of Lethbridge.

People can participate in the competition either by placing their vote (once per day) or by contributing to the project fund through a donation (one vote for each dollar donated).

Please help us spread the word to potential voters and funders. Visit and share our project at https://thisplacematters.ca/project/lethbridge-main-street-project
