YWCA Lethbridge & District’s Amethyst Program has been recognized by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Calgary for the program’s work regarding sexual violence, sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
Sexual violence, exploitation and human trafficking violate the most fundamental elements of human dignity, exposing victims to a world of hurt and destruction. The issue is dark and painful to talk about and happens more often than any of us can imagine. In Alberta, these crimes occur in both rural and urban areas meaning that sadly, no area is free from the darkness of this issue. Our Amethyst Program is doing something about the issue and we are not alone in our efforts.
YWCA Lethbridge & District is honoured to be one of four agencies fighting against human trafficking in Southern Alberta that will benefit from proceeds raised at the 2016 Bishop’s Dinner. Often described as “the Bishop’s annual dinner party for 500 of his closest friends”, the gala raises funds to benefit registered charities serving others in alignment with each year’s theme. The 2016 event takes place October 20th in Calgary at Commonwealth Centre.
Individuals or groups can purchase tickets for the event and specify which one of the four organizations they would like the ticket sales proceeds to support. Tickets are $175 each or $1,400 for a table of eight. They can be purchased online by going to my.calgarydiocese.ca/bishopsdinner.
