The City of Lethbridge and ATB Financial are pleased to announce the new name for the community’s premier leisure recreation facility under a naming sponsorship agreement.

The Crossings Leisure Complex officially has a new name: ATB Centre.

“We’re thrilled to have the ATB name on this great facility, but we’re most excited for the happiness that will be created inside,” says Rob Smith, Vice President of Alberta South for ATB Financial. “ATB Centre is a welcoming space where families and neighbours will come together, promote wellness, celebrate achievements, and create great memories. ATB is proud to be a part of that story.”

The agreement is for an initial five-year term, from 2016 to 2021, and provides ATB Financial with the first right of refusal to renew the naming rights. Over the full term of the agreement, the City is to receive a total of $402,800, which will be used to reduce the operational costs of the facility and cover initial sponsorship costs such as signage.

“We’re proud to have ATB Financial join us as a partner in this tremendous new leisure recreation facility that’s already fantastic and is only going to get better,” says Councillor Rob Miyashiro, who chairs the ATB Centre Steering Committee. “When Phase 2 opens in 2019, ATB Centre will be among the best facilities of its kind in all of Alberta.”

Financial terms include pro-rated fees being paid to the City during the first three years of the agreement, while Phase 2 of the complex is under construction, which will increase to the full amount of $125,000 annually in each of the final two years. For ATB Financial, the agreement will include exterior signage at four entrances to the complex, some interior signage, an information kiosk, and advertising on ABMs within the complex. An agreement in principle was reached early this year.

Phase 1 of ATB Centre features two NHL-sized arenas and a 10-sheet curling facility. A soft opening took place in early June offering limited programming, and a grand opening celebration is planned in mid-September. Construction began this spring on Phase 2, which is scheduled to open in 2019 and will adjoin Phase 1.

Planned Phase 2 elements include: Aquatics: 25-metre, 6-lane lap swimming pool; 2 waterslides, surf simulator, current channel (lazy river), tots spray area, 1-metre diving board, climbing wall, wave pool, whirlpool, teaching pool, steam room, changing areas; Field House & Gymnasiums: Multi-sport/multi-purpose field house, 3 gymnasiums, changing areas; Fitness Centre: Indoor running/walking track, Strength training, Aerobic fitness equipment, Studios; Other Elements: Child minding, indoor playground, youth room, multi-purpose rooms, meeting room, commercial lease space.
