The Southern Alberta Summer Games (SASG) return to Lethbridge July 6-9, 2016 for a four day celebration of sport and community! The SASG is an inclusive family-orientated grassroots sporting event, emphasizing physical and social involvement for everyone. There are numerous opportunities for all ages and skill levels to compete, whether you are competing in a sport for the first time, or as a seasoned athlete. Lethbridge is proud to be offering 20+ competitive events in a range of categories from 3/5/10 KM Runs to Swimming, Archery to Trapshooting, Cribbage to Photography and much, more.
In addition to the sport competitions, there will be a variety of other activities for participants and the public alike to enjoy such as the Opening Ceremonies on July 6th in Galt Gardens at 7 p.m. There will also be a number of cultural events, including a photography display at CASA. Other attractions around the city are also planned.
An estimated 2,500 athletes and their families from areas across Southern Alberta will be visiting Lethbridge for the Games, representing a total of 13 regions stretching from Medicine Hat to the Crowsnest Pass. The SASG Local Organizing Committee invites all community members with a love of sport to volunteer to help fill a variety of roles, from officiating, to first-aid response, to general event assistance. All registered volunteers will receive a 2016 SASG T-shirt. Sign up is available online at www.southernalbertasummergames.com. Local businesses are also encouraged to assist with delivering these events, please contact the Games Coordinator for more information about these opportunities.
Registration in the SASG can be completed by submitting a registration form and fee, which varies by region, to their respective Regional Director. The City of Lethbridge typically registers approximately 300+ athletes. All ages and levels of competition are encouraged to come out and help represent their City at the Games. Coaches are also needed to help lead our young athletes!
“The (SASG) Games are an important part of our region’s history and culture, we have seen the local sports community come onboard to help deliver the sporting events, and we know the local community will come together to help host our Southern Alberta neighbors with Lethbridge hospitality. We also hope to see an increased level of participation and a strong showing from our local athletes as we compete in our own backyard,” said Erin Low, SASG Games Chair.
The registration fee for local athletes will be $25, enabling athletes to participate in up to three different sports and/or activities. The fee also includes a competitor T-shirt. Deadline for registration is June 6th at 4:30pm. To register for the SASG contact Karlene Quinton at [email protected].
