LFS declares Febraury as Family Month

Michael J. Fox once said, “Family is not an important thing, it’s everything.” Staff at Lethbridge Family Services (LFS) and several community-minded partners believe this statement and want to make sure that family is a priority this February. They believe it so much that they are turning the whole month of February into Family Month.

The month-long campaign is meant to encourage individuals to make their family a priority not just for Family Day, but for the whole month. To raise awareness about the campaign, LFS has partnered with the Movie Mill, Two Guys and A Pizza Place, Bert and Mac’s, and Gas King. Each business is supporting the campaign in a different way to encourage people to spend time with their family while also raising money for LFS.

“Family Month is an exciting opportunity for the whole community to focus on family. This year we have four very strong local business partners that understand the importance of family to the community and are stepping up to help build stronger families and an even stronger Southern Alberta.” says Melody Garner, LFS Director of Advancement & Community Relations.

Each of the participating businesses will be encouraging families to spend time together by building those family connections through a variety of activities. For example, grab your family and head out for a slice at Two Guys then off to a family flick at the Movie Mill. Want something a little bit more active? Head to Bert and Mac’s, rent some skates, and head out to a local pond for a skate. Or spend the whole day together by exploring Southern Alberta and all of its treasures as a family, but only after stopping at Gas King to fill your vehicle and grab some snacks. The memories will last a lifetime and stronger families will be built.

“We are happy to support organizations like LFS that help to address family issues at many levels in our area. We are a family-run business, and know first-hand what strength in the home can provide for a community,” says Leonard Binning, Movie Mill Owner.

The campaign will run February 1–29 with many great opportunities for you to connect with your family and make them a priority this month while helping support a local agency.

To wrap up the month, a special family themed evening, the Generations Gala, is being held on March 18. The medieval-themed gala is an exciting way to spend time with your family. Tickets are $40 and include admission for one adult and one child and are available at www.lfsfamily.ca. There will be games, medieval feasting, a family dance, entertainment, and a chance to bid on fun family-themed excursions and activities. Plus, the Building the Family raffle will be drawn and someone will walk away with a $4,300 travel voucher or trip for four to Disneyland.
