The Southern Alberta Art Gallery (SAAG) celebrates First Friday, a monthly event showcasing the best downtown Lethbridge has to offer, by providing free admission to visitors who mention the event. With a new year comes a new funding model for the arts in Canada. The Canadian Council for the Arts will provide information on its new funding model in a webinar on Friday at Casa. The Allied Arts Council will be broadcasting the webinar in Casa’s Meeting Room starting at 11 a.m., and all individuals, groups, and organizations affected by the changes are invited to attend. For the first installment of the U of L’s Conservatory of Music Lunch & Listen concert series in 2016, the Chamber Music Institute will take the stage at Casa’s ATB Community Room on Friday at noon. Admission is free.
The City of Lethbridge’s annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program takes place Saturday. For the past 17 years, the City has partnered with local youth groups to collect Christmas trees to be recycled into mulch that residents can then use for gardening and landscaping purposes. Residents are asked to have their tree ready for pickup by 7 a.m. Trees are to be placed in the regular garbage collection location, but away from the waste collection bin.
Casa is unveiling its latest exhibit Artists Return Home – BRIDGE Saturday at 7 p.m. The exhibit showcases the works of four artists who studied and exhibited together in the ’90s while attending the U of L. The exhibit runs until February 26. Casa is open Friday and Saturday 9 a.m.–10 p.m., and on Sunday 10 a.m.–6 p.m. For more information, visit: casalethbridge.ca
